The Inaugural Meeting of the Fairvale Ladies Book Club

It's 1978 in Australia's vast Northern Territory. Cyclone Tracy is a recent memory. Life is hard and people are isolated. Sybil is the matriarch of Fairvale Station, run by her husband, Joe. With her son's English wife, Kate, finding life difficult at Fairvale, and her oldest friend, Rita, working for the Royal Flying Doctor Service in Alice Springs, Sybil devises a way to give them companionship: she forms a book club. Mother-of-three Sallyanne, from the dusty town of Katherine, joins them, and completing the group is Texas horsewoman Della. These five women are united by one need: to overcome the vast distances of Australia's Top End with friendship, tears, laughter, books and love.
